Dear Paso Schools Families,

Welcome to our first full week of the 2026–27 school year! It can take some time for students to settle back into school routines, and for our youngest learners to find their rhythm. A gentle reminder that consistency, and a little extra patience and grace can go a long way—both with our students, and with ourselves.

We already have a very full week ahead across Paso Schools, with our Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday at 6:00 p.m., ribbon cuttings for the new playgrounds and classrooms at Kermit King on Thursday and Pat Butler on Friday at 2:30 p.m., Coffee with the Superintendent Friday at 8:00 a.m., and the Bearcats’ first home football game of the season Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

Details for all of these events and more can be found below. We hope to see you out and about this week!

A Note About Weekly Communication

If you’re new to Paso Schools, we want to make it as easy as possible to know where to look for information. Families will generally receive one districtwide ParentSquare newsletter each week, bringing together the major events, celebrations, opportunities, and updates that apply across Paso Schools. We’ll also use this space to share ways you can connect with us, ask questions, and provide feedback.

Your school principal will continue to send a weekly school-specific ParentSquare update with the information you need for your individual campus—things like upcoming activities, reminders, schedules, and other site details. In short: your principal’s weekly message is where you’ll find the details for your school, while this District newsletter will help you keep up with what’s happening across Paso Schools.

Occasionally, something may come up that calls for a special announcement or an unscheduled message, but whenever possible, we’ll save routine District information for this weekly newsletter. We know families already have a lot competing for their attention, so our goal is to make communication clear, useful, and predictable rather than adding to the noise.

You’ll also find quick links in the footer of each District newsletter to frequently used resources, including the academic calendar, meal menus, and Aeries. And as always, if there’s something we can do to make these weekly updates more useful, we’d love to hear from you. You can reply to this message (replies are only visible to District staff), or email us at communications@pasoschools.org.

Ribbon Cuttings for New Playgrounds & Classrooms

Join us to celebrate the opening of two new spaces for little hands, big imaginations, and a whole lot of play!

This week, we’re cutting the ribbon on new playgrounds and classrooms at two of our elementary schools—and our community is invited to help us celebrate.

🐸 Kermit King Elementary School
Thursday, August 20 at 2:30 p.m.
Celebrating the new playground and classrooms

🐻 Pat Butler Elementary School
Friday, August 21 at 2:30 p.m.
Celebrating the new playground, classrooms, and garden

The new ADA-accessible playgrounds feature soft, resilient surfacing and are designed to give more students room to climb, run, explore, and play. Just as importantly, the new classrooms will allow our Expanded Learning Opportunities Program to grow, increasing capacity in our popular after-school care program, which is 100% free for Paso Schools families.

We’d love to have our families, neighbors, staff, and community members join us as we officially welcome these additions to campus. 💚

☕ Start the New School Year with Coffee & Conversation!

The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District invites families and community members to join Superintendent Jennifer Loftus this Friday at 8:00 a.m. for the first Coffee with the Superintendent of the new school year!

Held in the District Boardroom at 800 Niblick Road, this informal gathering is a great opportunity to connect with Superintendent Loftus, ask questions, share ideas, and hear what’s happening across our schools and district as we kick off an exciting new school year.

Whether you have a question, a suggestion, or simply want to stay connected, we’d love to see you there!

Coffee, donuts, and good conversation—we can’t think of a better way to start the school year! We look forward to seeing you Friday!
